Xiaomi’s Mi 11 Ultra is finally on sale in India in limited quantities. The company announced its latest flagship smartphone back in March, but since then it’s been almost impossible to buy one outside of China. The phone sold out immediately in the UK in May, so inventory is very limited, and last month Xiaomi said India launch will be postponed “due to circumstances beyond our control”.
Now Xiaomi has released details on how Indians can actually buy one as long as they are willing to go through a few hoops. Customers need to purchase an “ultra gift card” for Rs. 1,999 (~$27) on the Mi.com website, which can later be exchanged for the price of the Mi 11 Ultra and includes some bonuses such as two free screen replacements
The Mi 11 Ultra itself starts with Rs. India: 69,999 (~$940). Xiaomi hasn’t said how long the gift card will be available for use, how many phones it will be able to purchase, or when it will ship, but is describing the launch as a “limited sale”.
Xiaomi’s main selling point over Mi 11 Ultra’s (very good) non-ultra sibling is the all-new camera system. The main camera has a large 1/1.12-inch 50-megapixel sensor, as well as a 48-megapixel ultra-wide and telephoto module. All of this is housed in a huge camera bump with a secondary OLED screen that can act as a viewfinder.
I’ve been using the Mi 11 Ultra for a while. Stay tuned for our review.
